FESTIVAL OF TREES 2012

“A Canadiana Christmas, eh!”

$311,000

Dr. Rininsland at Festival of Trees 2012Once again the spirit of generosity that Moose Jaw is famous for was displayed at this year’s 21st Festival of Trees. This year’s theme ‘A Canadiana Christmas”’ transformed the Heritage Inn into a Canadian culinary and entertainment journey.   Dr. Volker Rininsland was the Master of Ceremonies for this year’s event and sang three songs, including one that received a standing ovation.

This year’s proceeds will be directed towards the purchase of new cardiac and stroke equipment, items of patient comfort for critically ill patients and a state-of-the-art blood analyzer.

The highlight of the evening was the live auction of uniquely decorated trees/displays, other unique items, and cash auction.  Some highlights included:

  • Mason’s Tree was the tree of choice and was purchased in memory of Mason Clewis by Nelson Construction for $35,000. Bob Nelson's daughter played hockey with Mason who passed away from cancer and he was very much touched by the presentation. Mason’s parents were in the audience.
  • Dr. DuToit’s Olive 10 liter fusti was purchased for $3,000 by Murray GM.
  • Yara’s Winter Wonderland Tree was purchased for $20,000.
  • Gourmet Chef’s Table for Eight was purchased for $2,000 by Yara.
  • Wayne Gretzky Oiler Photo was purchased for $7,000 by Bill Trembley Construction.  I may be going out on a limb here, but my guess is that Bill is a Wayne Gretzky fan ;}
  • Nitty Gritty Autographed Guitar from the McElree family was purchased for $2,250.
  • An electric Galveston custom guitar from the Rick Boszak collection fetched $2,500.

The Festival’s volunteer committee was once again led by Laurie Kosior and her amazing team of volunteers who had been hard at work for months in preparation.   Festival provides many businesses and individuals a unique way to show their support of our hospital each year.  Everyone contributes in their own way to make Festival special.

The Moose Jaw Health Foundation would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended, generously contributed and purchased auction items, volunteered their time, and made cash donations.
