This Christmas Help the Foundation Turn Wishes into Reality

This Christmas season, the Moose Jaw Health Foundation has a “wish list” of new equipment that will answer many questions for patients at the hospital of today and the hospital of tomorrow.

Did I have a heart attack? Is my unborn baby okay? Do I have cancer? The answers to these life changing questions require lab tests to inform your doctor and confirm a diagnosis.

Every year, over 55,000 complete blood count tests are conducted at Moose Jaw Union Hospital.  If you were a patient, your doctor might order a complete blood count as part of a routine physical or as a diagnostic tool. It can tell, for example, if your white blood cell count is high or low. High could indicate infection; low could suggest a bone marrow problem.

Not only does the Foundation need to bring a new complete count blood analyzer to our hospital; it also needs a blood gas analyzers to measure pH, oxygen and CO2 levels in the blood, a high resolution laboratory microscope for detailed analysis of cells and a centrifuge to separate blood samples that will enable the skillful deciphering of tests.
