Mammography Matters

A decade ago, the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, with the help of its donors, brought the first digital mammography system to the Moose Jaw Union Hospital.  Thousands of women have benefited from that technology each year in the early detection of breast cancer.  Since that first campaign, there have been many advances in mammography technology to better detect breast cancer.  The Foundation wants to bring that new technology to our hospital.

The Foundation’s Mammography Matters campaign goal is to bring the next generation of digital mammography to the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital.  The new cutting-edge equipment includes a clearer, more defined digital image that can with pinpoint accuracy detect breast cancer better.  The new mammography machine will also feature improvements to patient comfort during the examination.

The Foundation needs the community to rally together to bring this new mammography unit to our community.  The cost of the new mammography unit is $375,000.  It will only come here with Foundation donor support to help in the early detection of breast cancer.

Ryan Hrechka, Chairman of the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, commented, “Early detection is the key in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.  The new state-of-the-art equipment with a superior and clearer image, less radiation, plus greater patient comfort during the examination will help save the lives of people in Moose Jaw and surrounding communities.  Please support the campaign with a donation or organizing an event to inspire people.”

Even though the Foundation begins the new Mammography Matters campaign for the next generation of mammography technology, it is vital for those that need a mammogram to get it now.  Early detection is always the key.  Last year over 3,000 mammograms were performed at our hospital.

Every donation you make to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation stays in our community and is appreciated – no matter the size. To help equip the hospital for a healthier tomorrow, click here or contact the Moose Jaw Health Foundation.
